hood pad issue/ideas/options

The engine was was in my SD let go of all its oil a while back... well as a result of it being a messy leaky old lady, the hood pad is soaked in oil. I replaced it about 3 years ago and it still looks new, but I don't like that if i bump it, oil comes out of it... it amazing its still stuck to the hood and looks as good as new, but with like a quart of oil soaked into it.

so my options,
1) Keep is as is, and wait til it falls apart onto my new clean engine.
2) replace it... but I'm worried that if this engine formed a leak I may be in the same situation again
3) replace it with something else. I'm thinking something with a foil layer, so that the oil can't get to the foam.

I bought this:
http://www.lowes.com/pd_28929-1410-FV516_4294934297+4294965231_4294937087?productId=1081449&pl=1&currentURL=/pl_Frost%2BKing_4294934297+4294965231_4294937087_

I bought it for my firewall... as I blasted off all the oil soaked foam with the pressure washer when I was cleaning the engine bay.

anyone have any other ideas?

the makers of dynamat have a foil layered hood pad.

fits ours pretty good with slight modification, and covers 95%

Pretty quiet and easy to clean.

Its nice to have a reflector for light when you're working too.

I'd replace it. But paint on a liquid sound deadner before installing the new one. I'm not a fan of oil soaked hood pads.

Do you bump into it when you put the hood to full vertical?

I was thinking the same thing.

Not particularly, but I know its soaked in oil... and my radiator cap barely touches it, and its always shiny with oil. It just makes me a little upset, and I know its going to fall apart sooner or later.

found this pic of the same product, it looks like the same foam as the stock pad, but with the foil layer. I think this is the thing to get.

I finally got that link to work.

I remember researching the various foams available at hardware stores and Mcmaster... just about all of them will not tolerate the engine bay heat. Specifically the turbo.

that picture does it no justice. It is closed cell foam. Not absorbent like the OEM pad... which is kinda garbage..IMO.

I can take a picture if you ask nice.

For the fire wall, I was thinking of using header wrap on the down pipe to keep the heat away from the fire wall. then I could use the "lesser" foam insulation, mainly for the sound.

I did this for a while... its no too bad sounding, but it sounds better with the pad, and the engine bay looks x10000 better with a hood pad.

Ehh. my picture doesn't help much either. But Bill Murray earned it.

The description says its open and closed cell.... I was wrong, as usual. Still doesn't absorb oil much.

there will be some minor gaps on the long edge and short edge, depending on how you place it.

what about using some of that foil insulation tape around the edges? it would at least make it look flush.

it does look more dens then the stock pad.
