104 degrees on the drive up I85 today and I have to keep the AC fan on low and direct the vents away from me to keep my hands from freezing. I need to put a thermometer on it to see what temp is coming out of the vent.

Not sure if the conversion was done when Hatterasguy owned the car or before but man it sure does blow cold air.

Maybe it isn't actually 134 in there.

my car is convinced that it's 1*c all the time. It'll tell me -125 too. funny being in florida and seeing it

It's 134, check the fitting. It sure does blow cold. Wish I had tinted the windows to reflect as much UV radiation as tint can to help cool the interior.

The cabriolets temp display is in Celsius. I don't need to do the metric conversion to know that 37 C is hot!

Yeah, 134 works fine when the system is working properly.

My BMW is converted to 134. When the job is done right, one cannot really tell. Mine was done with new compressor (which is really the only reason to open the system and think about it), and meanwhile the expansion valve was changed too. The system works and is tight.

My hesitation for w123s is the R4 compressor... my BMW uses a nippondenso, IIRC.

your bmw also has a much more modern condenser than any 123 has.

True - early 80's tech versus mid 70's tech.. But there are lots of horror stories on E30s too...

I'm referring to the SDL and yes it is 134 and yes it was 104 degrees. The air temperature on I 85 is always warmer than the ambient. It cooled off all the way to 99 when I got on the secondary roads near the house.:) It also felt like 104% humidity!

My SD is an example of a conversion that doesn't work so well. No doubt partly because of the black exterior and black interior. I'm going to be converting that one back to R12 soon.

@TheDon - I considered tinting the widows but haven't done it. It cools so well that I haven't felt the urgency to do so.

Everyone that saw me in the car said it looked like a car the Russian mafia or a bad guy car. So tinting the windows was on my wish list. If the car was black on black it so would have been first thing done.

When I had 134 in my 300D, the performance was "adequate" but not great. Going back to R-12 was a definite improvement.

Conversions usually work just fine on a long highway cruise. That 70MPH breeze through the condenser and constant turning of the compressor at well above idle RPMs gives the system lots of capacity. It's in 100+ stop-n-go that the difference is generally noted.

The W126 received a condensor upgrade in 1985. Cars prior to '85 will not cool very well with R134.

My BLACK '85 SD running R134 is a meat locker. Here we see the outside ambient temp is 97f, fan blowing medium speed in 'auto' mode and a left vent temp of around 40f. The compressor will cycle due to low evep temps if the fan is on low speed. Otherwise, I could make ice.

The compressor cycles on my W126 at idle even, but the vent temp's aren't that great. I wonder if the evaporator is all full of dirt?
