brake bleeder screw sizes
So, I am going to try to bleed my clutch slave and am going to use some teflon tape on the brake bleeder screw and the slave cyl bleed screw.
I want get some spare bleeders, pretape them, then switch them with the ones that are currently in use to minimize fluid loss. Then I will attempt the FSM bleed method. Anybody know the sizes of the bleed screws? Thanks, Andrew

The wrench size is 9mm for the brake and 7mm for the clutch slave.
I had the worst time ever bleeding a clutch last month. Both bleeders (my 300 TD) leaked bad around the threads so I put teflon tape on the threads and that solved the problem. I put the appropriate size box wrenchs on the bleeders before the hose so when I'm done bleeding I dont have to fumble so much with the wrench to shut off the bleeders, also removing the wheel helps as do the hose clamps. Happy bleeding

Yes, I guess I knew that and assume that they are metric threaded
Are bleeders on domestic vehicles SAE?

On my W123 300D the thread sizes of the rear ATE calipers' bleed nipples come in two sizes 7mm and 8mm. I've just ordered both because the old ones I have are now very rusty and almost conical... The front ATE calipers have a one size only thread (sorry I don't know for sure the size - but I think it is 8mm). So yes this European car has only metric threads!

FYI
I use this method to reduce fluid loss. Remove the reservoir cap, put a membrane, like the food thin film wrapping plastic on top and put the cap back on. This is to make it air tight and will reduce the fluid loss while you work on the brakes.

It worked!
Taped the bleeders with minimal fluid loss, hooked up the fluid filled tube between bleeders and had my wife pump the brake while I opened and closed the slave bleeder as specified in the manual. It only took a few pumps to evacuate any air and the deed was done.
I am shifty once more. Thanks to all.

I too need to replace my bleeder screw on my rear calipers- i broke one off while tightening on rear caliper. I have learned these are very hard to come by. The rear calipers are either ATE or "another-option". The thread sizes are 8mm or 7mm but i am unsure of the pitch. Can anyone help me with this? Ill be taping out the old thread this week sometime and trying to get the right bleeder screw.
