Working on climate control vacuum
1 Attachment(s)
My climate control has risen to the top of the priority list. I can get heat but not cold air want to start by having air blow out the correct vents before messing with the compressor.
There is still some R12 in the system but I haven't found my gauges to test the pressure. The compressor comes on but is noisy. Switchover valves 13 & 17 in the attached diagram don't hold vacuum. Air always comes out the defroster vents and the center vents but not the side vents. Center vents shut off when switched to defrost. 13 connects to pod 38 (defroster) and pod 40. 17 connects to pod 42 and pod 43. I'd like to patch as little as possible until I get time to pull the dash and fix whatever is under there. Which pods need to be changed (38, 40, 42 &/or 43)? Any other comments? |
When you scroll the temp dial to the coldest setting, does the air coming out just seem lukewarm, or is it hot. If it is hot you'll need to buy the monovalve rebuild kit. The monovalve could be leaking hot cooling fluid into the system if it isn't working properly.

Also, maybe don't worry so much about having air come out of the "correct" vents. It has nothing to do with a cold air / warm air problem.

Start at the source of your vacuum ,the vacuum pump.Making sure your getting good vacuum .Next, its on to the main vacuum line that attaches to the pump and runs to the brake booster. This replacement saved me alot of heartache. It will seem like theirs vac at the little attachment lines but any obstruction in one of these old lines means slow moving actuators and slow shut down, cost around $38 .I pulled the center consol ,radio ,a/c control unit(then hooked back up),glove box just to get a look at all the actuators working. My problem was no center vents ,the actuator left lower of the glove box was slow ,(leaking ) bypassed it and plugged it off, now if I want center vents I just twist the vent for air .You could also have leaks at the door lock actuators ,any vac lose weakens the system.
