1980 240d - 300d shorter shafted
puting a 5 cyl into a 240d w/ man tranny everything is going nicely. started looking for a shop to shorten the tail shaft. seems there's only one shop from suffolk to the beach that will do it and he want's 250$. since i have nothing to compare with i can't say that that's a reasonable price. soo does any one know of a shop or shops that will do the job? i'll go as far north as dc and as far south as raliegh/durham nc. is 250$ reasonable??? or is this the result of a lack of competition?? does anyone know where i can get a mb shaft that will fit unmodified?

$250 is probably the going price, think that is about what I paid when i had mine done.
If you can find a grey mkt car in the JY, 617 with a 4 spd, then pull the DL and FW, both a rare find. that would fit right in. The DL shop will need both sections to balance. If you are high milage, then they might want to replace the center support bearing. the shop I used changed it out. Now a year later after I did my 4 spd swap, I had them replace the U-Joint. old one seemed "ok" kind of notchy feel to it. didn`t give me any problems before with the automatic. had a rumble/vibration feel I was chassing down, discovered the joint had play in it. Now runs smooooooooooth. there is a DL shop in Texas some of the guys have posted, think it is Thrash Driveline. they are a little pricy, but will be done right. Charlie
