Alt Adjustment Bolt
 

As I was changing the trans fluid today I decided to do some cleaning, when I noticed the adjustment bolt for the A/C belt, (looks like a lolly pop with a nut) then I wondered if the Alt had the same thing. When I reinstall the Alt after getting it re-build I was having problem tightening the belts I also noticed a wierd bracket on the top bolt. Now that I've seen the adjustment bolt for the A/C does the Alt have the same.

If so, can someone shoot me photo what it looks like so I can fabricate one. I don't think I'll find one of these in a junk yard, and looking for one might take awhile, fabricating it might be faster as long as I have one to duplicate. I guess I can always duplicate the A/C adjustment bolt to make it work for the Alt, the same concept. Again, thank you for you guys patients with these basic question.

There is the old Eye Bolt Fix, much cheaper and does the same thing.

often, the bolt originally on the car is broken by ham fisted mechanics.
also done is the bracket it sits in gets mangled, and is useless.
take a pic of the top bracket in your car and lets see how yours looks.
but yeah, a new "lollipop" can be put on the top bolt and passed through the bracket if yours is intact. keep in mind, the bracket is mild steel, and will warp if all three bolts on the back of the alternator are not loose!

Could you post a picture of an alternator with three bolts on the back?

ok smarty pants... only two bolts go through the alternator, but there are 3 bolts that must be loosened. two on the alternator and one on the pivot point of the bracket that attaches to the block bracket.

Thank you everyone for your response. I saw the "L" bolt from the link for the life of me I couldn't not figure how that long adjustment bolt and the long bolt (the actual mount) bolt goes through the bracket and through the hole. As mentioned I fabricated one similar to the one for the Alt by welding a threaded rod to the washer on the bolt head (I should have taken a photo) it's quite nice and it works.

I suspect that there would be fewer problems with the adjusting bolt if the tension on the adjusting rod was relieved after the primary fasteners are properly torqued down. There doesn't need to be any tension on the rod except during the adjustment process.
