Black dash in Blue int

People were wondering (as was I), and I finally had a chance to swap in the black dash and console. The real reason was a failed AC drain, which led to the center vent pod replacement, and the discovery of the inside temp sensor being broken. So, after dissecting the car, I decided to replace the dash, "since I was in there". Here's the after pics. Not bad, IMO. I do have the SEM shadow blue, but I wanted to see it black first. This may get me motivated to do the fiberglass dash. Or, may not.

All cars should have black dashes.

Iam biased towards black interior, and blue hasn`t been my favorite............
so to me the black dash looks good. also with black there isn`t a reflection on the windshield like I have seen on lighter colors. don`t know about the blue reflecting.

Since you are use to your car being blue, you will be more aware of the color change for a while. as you get use to it, you probably won`t be as aware of it.

So I think it looks ok.

I'd prefer black. I put a black dash in one of my cars, with a blue interior, because I felt it looked correct. Used blue lower panels so that it looked like a typical Mercedes 2-tone dash.

Your dash and console look brown, like they came from a cream, palomino, or other brown-tone interior. They need black or blue spray IMO.

I was tempted to put a black dash in my '87 blue interior but decided to try the SEM paint. The black looks good in your car and no doubt was a lot less work.

I also like the black. I'd have probably left the console blue. How many hours to do the switch?

It did come from a Palomino int, from my old 82. I would have used the blue console, but it was pretty broken up.

CR, it took 9 hours, but that includes time to do the other repairs, go to Lowes, eat, etc. Today I start the motor swap in the white one, and I have another pretty good black dash... Hmmmmm

Craig, I agree. IIRC, a lot of older cars had black dashes no matter what the interior color was. That was another reason to do it.

If you should want too keep a blue dash in a blue car as I did, Sim's "Shadow Blue" is a very good match.

Stevo, I have that sitting here. Not sure I'm going to use it. Really wanted to see it black first.

Changing the console to black also will make it look good.

Its just a matter of what you like. The blue on blue 79 240D I had was technicality my wife's and she wanted to stick with blue, soooo, as I'm trying to encourage her to love these cars , you know where I'm going with this. I painted
the black parts car dash blue, and it really did came out nice. I did another for my TD recently.

Something about those blue dashes, they dont hold up near as well. Not too many in the bone yards anymore I'm guessing, so if you want it blue you have to make it so.

They just don't hold up like the old painted steel and chrome ones did. That NHTSA sure makes things difficult.
