Down to one MB - Sold the wagon

I sold the wagon last night. It was hard to watch it drive away, probably never to be seen again. I sold it to a nice young couple, that love biodiesel, and were driving a TDI Beetle, so I think it went to a good home. I'll gonna miss the 617 turbo. I spent a lot of time in, on, under, and around that car. Probably the first car I spent so much time on. But now I can focus on my 240.

I guess I'm not Biodiesel300TD anymore. To keep the style I'd have to be WVO240D.

Yep. You'll need to retire this account and re-register. Shame to lose nearly 3k post history...

heh, it'd be odd for me if I had made a user name off the car I have... it's changed a LOT in the last 10 years...

The 5 cylinder turbo will be missed for sure. But my 240 is in much better shape. Maybe one day I will find a good 617 turbo to put in it.

That was such a pretty color combination - I have a '84 td euro wagon that I hope to paint soon so it can look that clean, but for now, working SLS, strong motor and mechanicals, clean untorn interior! Love the wagon!

you should tell the couple to join the forum, that way you can keep tabs on the wagon and they can ask questions of you easily. Hard to believe that your 240 is in that much better condition than that extremely clean looking wagon in the first post!

Having gone from a 300D to a 240D, I find myself REALLY missing the additional power after putting some miles on the 240, but the fuel economy is a nice factor. I will be busting my A$$ to get my wagon going though, the lead foot demands it.

It`s sad to see them go, but you had your reasons. I want a TD as the next one I drag home.

There is nothing wrong with a 240D, yeah they are a little slower than a 300D and much slower than a 300D Turbo.
I have both, 240 and 300 turbo. I wouldn`t trade either one for a new car.

We took the 240 to Portland Or, last May, and it did ok. there are some mountain passes to climb over, and for 309K did really well.
Iam not into going zero to 80 in 3.6 seconds like some here . I usually catch up to them at the next red light anyway..

Andrew does have a nice 240, I saw it last year at the last GTG with the Spruce Goose.

Just went through and checked out the spruce goose, very nice! Im curious though, what happened with all the spray paint on the plates, lights, and hood? he did a great job cleaning that car up and bringing it back from the dead!

Well sad indeed to see you let it go.

Like I said before, it's one of my favorite wagons I've seen in person. I hope it served you well and have a long life with the new owners.

Someone decided they needed to spray paint my car and several others in the neighborhood that night. I was pissed! Atleast I didn't get a Nazi sign like some folks down the street. I cleaned all the paint of that day, it was a cold day so the paint never dried very well. I used to orang hand cleaner and really gently rubbed it off. If you look really close in a couple spots there is still a little bit of paint. It was a tough choice. The wagons been a good car, but it had some issues. I've been fighting the trans since I got the car. It shifted REALLY hard when I got the car. I finally got that figured out. Then a few years later it started flaring when cold. I got the simmered down some, but still not really nice. It's compression is kind of low. So it needed the block heater when temps dipped down around freezing for very long. The body was straight the paint wasn't the greatest, the interior was in really good shape. So it had it's ups and downs. The 240 is nice through out. Good paint, very few blemishes. Body is straight. Solid manual trans, strong engine that starts up with no hesitation in all weather. Nearly perfect interior. And it's so much easier to work on.

Here is a slideshow of some of the work I've done to the 240 - http://w35.photobucket.com/pbwidget.swf?pbwurl=http://w35.photobucket.com/albums/d191/andrewlindgren/240D/ef27f8b9.pbw

It had your dashboard in it. And it was the best looking dash I've seen in person. I wish I could find a black on for the 240.
