Cruise control problem

I use my cruise control faithfully, maybe once every year, ie, nearly never.

I was traveling last week when I actually needed it, and it would sort of catch in for a second or two, then not work.

I checked the fuse, that's fine. It's possible it's not working due to an indpendant mechanic breaking one of those plastic ball joints along the throttle linkage; (it was on honest accident, and he glued it back together with a strong epoxy since we didn't have another on hand). I'm assuming the linkage might be a tad stiff perhaps (not that I notice it in the gas pedal at all), and maybe kicking the cruise control off.

Is there anything else I should look at?

Thanks,

most likely, it's your cruise control amp.

There are troubleshooting procedures that will allow you to eliminate the stalk and brake switches. Check your brake lights, too. The ground for the holding circuit runs through the brake light filaments. It could also be the input from a speed sensor. But chances are its the amp. They are notorious for failing.

You can try finding a replacement at a pik-n-pull, or you can get a rebuilt. Or you can have yours refurbished, but its a bit spendy. You might also try re-soldering, though more than likely you have component failures and soldering won't fix that. Here's a link to a place that rebuilds the amps and actuators. There's alot of info on this site about troubleshooting your system as well. This link is to their site index.

Back up lights?

I know you said brake light filaments, but now that you mention that, that brings up something new....

My reverse lights don't come on, probably due to my neutral safety switch needing adjusted. I wonder if that might have something to do with the cruise control?

Thanks.

Not likely. Should be completely separate circuit. But I don't have access to a 91 300D wiring diagram.
