To whoever mentionned it. I've seen a diesel turbo bobcat run off its crankcase oil and run away until it drained the pan and made some horribly expensive noises and turned itself off by welding itself together.

At least it turned itself off. Makes it easier to get to the junkyard

edit: makes it easier to tow.. Yeah...

In the heat of the moment this probably isn't a likely response - but has anyone ever tried to unscrew the injectors on a diesel that won't stop? Trying to kill compression is the plan - I guess the last few threads on the injector will be a bit dicey - I imagine the injectors will be spat out at great speed...

in that case, you have two choices, pull the fuel line and hope it's something in the IP causing the revs, or shoot a CO2 fire extinguisher in the intake snorkel. DO NOT USE A DRY CHEMICAL EXTINGUISHER!
Thank you....

I was just about to say that I have turned mine off with a 2x4 several times when I was having shut down problems. All you have to do is remove the plastic intake elbow and block the intake side of the turbo. It will shut down quick.

If it was revving to 4k, I would not be anywhere near it. Not worth the risk of getting hurt.

Lots of threads on this topic. It's been proven on here that there's no need to unscrew the injectors. Simply cut or pull off the fuel line and the engine will stop. Of course if it's running on the crankcase oil, this might not work. However, there's never been a case on this forum to my knowledge of any Mercedes car diesel engine running away on crankcase oil.

Does that kill compression or just stop the fuel?

If say you have a non Mercedes diesel that is running on the crank case oil - do you think removing the injectors would work?

It stops the fuel
Yes, removing the injectors would work since it would remove compression.
