Are you kidding? A RHD 280 is pretty cool!! I'd love to restore something like that.

Yeah, I thought it was pretty cool as well. The interior fabric, before when new or well taken care of would have been really nice. And RHD? How cool is that?

It was a 4 speed.

Amazing how many of these are at the pull a part every time I go there. They all seem so solid still, you know, no rust, no rips in the MB TEX, and with the durability of the motors its hard to see what did them in.

I would love a RHD car just to putz around in. Sure it would make drive through windows and toll booths annoying, but just get an EZ pass to solve that.

Walking into the bank or fast food restaurant is also a solution

should be the same driveshaft and flywheel as the 300D though.
please go pull all the stuff.
those headlight doors look good too, dirty but not cracked. I'd love that shifter console and boot as well.
I'll pay shipping!@!

Is it my imagination, or is the dash in nice shape? It would be way cool to save all the right hand drive stuff from the crusher. Someone could make a US car into a right hand drive. Of course you would need ALL of parts connected to the fire wall, and the fire wall as well. Would the yard sell the car as-is? If so, it would not be hard to find someone with the $ to get it.
It would not be me, as I am in So. Cal. Like they say, "why is all the good stuff so far away"?

T-cup were the bumpers on the car still in good shape or were they rusty? I was planning on going out there tomorrow.

I have some time on my hands and I hate to see good parts go to waste. If there are any requests let me know.

diametrical--glad to hear you're going out. The car is in the back half, in the Japanese import section, all the way down on the end toward the right as you're going to the back of the yard. The chrome on the bumpers was starting to flake in some areas.

rollguy--they don't sell whole cars out of the yard. Sadly.

vstech--diametrical is your best bet now. I've been to the pull a part 2 days in a row now, and can't get back b/c I've got work tomorrow.

All--the yard gave me a $13 price on the flywheel. Not sure about other parts.

If it is a 280 and it probably is not, more likely a 123.020 200 or a 123.023 230 with an M115 in-line four cylinder engine , then the flywheel is significantly different weight-wise from the flywheel used in any 617 application. Of the flywheels I have handled the OM 617, the OM616 and the M110 the M110 is by far the lightest about half the weight of the OM 617 part. The M115 flywheel is likely lighter still, the earlier 2 liter engine was rated at about 93hp and the later 2.3 liter at around 108hp, compared to the M110 which was rated at 154hp at its lowest and about 185hp for a Euro FI M110..988/9. Mercedes literature specifically cautions against using the flywheel from an M110 application for any other installation.

On a side note the bellhousing on the M115 engine has the starter on the driver's side as opposed to the passenger side starters on the M110 and ON 61X engines!

The attachment point dimensions of the OM 61X and the M110 flywheels are the same none the less.

There are other chassis that utilize the Mercedes scheme of a RHD spec cylinder head for these RHD applications in order to get things to fit, the 190 SL uses this approach as do a number of other similar early models. That might make the cylinder head/intake/exhaust manifolds somewhat valuable in England!

Driveshaft is probably similar in length to an OM615/6 application because of the similar engine lengths meaning it would be too long for a direct fit in any five cylinder application but at least it could just shortened as opposed to something else that would have to be lengthend.

the OP states it's a 280, and the pic looks like a 6cyl motor, so even if the flywheel is not adequate, the driveshaft will be MUCH closer to what a 617 needs than a 4cylinder motor would. and I'd STILL like the shifter boot/console, and such anyway!

Im pretty sure it is a Mercedes 250. With a M123 engine.

The M115 is a 4 cylinder engine, the picture looks like a 6 cylinder to me.
