Visited the dealer parts Dept today

I made a trip to the closest MB dealer near me (70 miles one way) today and would like to share a few things with you.

If you have pre-1990 MB diesel, you may want to consider replacing the injector return hose! After I ran some cleaner, the one with the end plug started leaking. So I bought one meter ($10.50, yes, that is right from the dealer we have here) of the hose and replaced them in the dealer parking lot. The hoses were so brittle and they simply broken up, all of them. The end plug can be re-used after inserting it into a new section of the hose. Now my leak has stopped. I have placed an order for the hose and end plug but the leak forced me to buy at the dealer.

I also got some O-rings for the oil filter center bolt. Want to know the price? $1 each. (I told you our dealer is really a high priced dealer). The same O-ring mail orders about $0.15 each.

Got the correct shifter housing bulb, $2.80 and is rated at 0.6 W. The GE 74 I got from Wal-Mart does not fit perfectly and the wattage is too high to me as it appears much brighter.

Went to Circuit City and bought a Kenwood CD/Receiver head unit with a remote. They offered to free install it so I let them do it. Probably a mistake as I have to re-fit the ash tray and the pulled the center wood again to put it back correctly after I got home. The guy must not know a whole lot of electronics either as he did not bypass the factory fader (I told him to and showed him the diagram, etc.). At least it works so it is going to stay there for now and the factory fader stays in the center position so I can use the fader in the head unit to control. Sound quality wise, a huge improvement over the factory Becker and I can listen to CD.

The dealer I goto locally is very reasonable, maybe it is because they are higher volume. My same o-rings were $0.50 each I think and everything else is pretty reasonable too.

Bo,

I live even further from a dealer, so I understand your plight.

I try to keep a stick of the hose around, once it has been on for any length of time, you cannot remove it and reinstall it successfully, it just gets too brittle. It is a really good toolbox in the trunk item.

I'm glad you got it fixed.

Have a great day,
