87 300SDL control arm question

I have some play in the right wheel. today I was looking around and found that the lower control arm bushing is causing the play. the bushing seems to be worn out. Is there a way to replace the bushing or do i need the entire control arm replaced?

You can replace just the bushing.

How do you observe the play? More often it's the guide rod mount that gives up before LCA bushing. A loose guide rod mount results in wheel fore-aft looseness and clunk sounds when you apply the brakes abruptly or come to a stop.

It definitely clunks when braking, I also lifted the car and pushed the wheel around to see if there was play and it did clunk. I had my dad push the wheel in all kinds of directions and i observed under the car to see where the play was, and I saw that the lower control arm was moving and in particular the bushing.

The braking clunk is generally a bad guide rod mount.

A lower wishbone as in the W124 and W140 has limited fore-aft movement. The W126 LCA needs the guide rod to control fore-aft movement. Left to itself, the far end of a LCA even with new inner bushing can easily be moved fore-aft by hand.
