Just think of the car collection you could aquire buying another Benz each time one of the others breaks down!

365 days in the year = 365 cars in the driveway

True, but he's going to fix the car anyway and rebuilding injectors doesn't cost much less than buying ones ready to install.

I agree he's fishing for a reason to buy another car. He's just not as good as the rest of us yet

So I am considering buying a "cheap" piece of transportation until then, and sell once I trust my car again. But of course it has to be a diesel car. My question is that what are the chances that buying lets say a $500 running and driving mercedes that i will not have to dump a bunch of money into it just to get it to get me from point a to point b. Here are a few options i have found:

Let me know what you think, or if i should just suck it up and drive the gas guzzler...

I would go the parts cars route. Buy like models one at a time to cannibalize to keep your main MB diesel running. The only problem is finding your model cheap and close enough to drag home. That, and the space to store parts cars. At your age, I'd definitely go the parts cars route if I were you. Might as well learn these things inside and out if you like owning and driving them.

ok, after reviewing some prices i have decided that new replacements may just be worth it. And yes truly ive been looking for a reason to buy another mb diesel... But i currently own 2 of the 10 cars in the shop and garage, and get lectured about having too much already. I gave up on the parts car idea, when i realized how few w124's there were with the 5cyl. My car I thought was cheap, and have yet to see anything close to it and a parts car for me would need to be very cheap. Also I am not as skilled at finding new ways to "need" another mb diesel, im only 16...

IIRC you need special equipment and knowledge to replace nozzles then balance the set so I'd stay with complete injectors. Are there Bosch shops that offer injectors on an exchange basis?

Back to the sideline, if you get a beater in the interim, you'll have another money draw (I said draw, not pit) contending for your limited funds. Maybe that's how you factor a month to get the 2.5 running.

Skid Row Joe makes a good point and you don't need another 2.5 to start with. You don't even need another Diesel. A same year 300E will have lots of parts you can use. A 190D 2.5 will also have a bunch of parts you can use. If you find a 190D 2.5 5-speed, you'll have what you need for a very desirable conversion if you like to row.

so does peachparts offer complete injectors? If not where can I get them complete, columbus diesel is not returning my calls for rebuilds... and i actually found a 91 300d that "needs timing belt" for $488 but hes pretty far away. Also I am pushing the beater car off to the side for now...

Peachparts aka Fastlane to the forum has injectors. Check whunter's link above. And don't let his moderator title fool you. He's pretty radical

Grab that 91 300D! Think of it as a set of injectors with a parts car thrown in for free. The busted timing chain, it doesn't have a timing belt unless someone stuffed a Toyota engine in it, might mean a few bent valves but it's otherwise an ideal parts car.

Sure there are

The country is filled with cheap Mercedes. Any Benz selling for under $5000.00 is cheap by new car standards and many of these "cheapies" offer excellent transportation. But you have to be able to separate cheap from junk. Junk should go to the P & P, but because of lax or no enforcement of auto inspections, they live to see another day. Except for using it as a parts car, and it is wonderful to have a good parts car, a person shouldn't buy a junker.

well this worked out oddly....

Well with the 92 on the back burner for a bit, I started looking into selling the 1977 vw bus for some extra project money. well an add came up on craigslist for a 1983 300sd that wanted to trade for something different but didnt want to sell. I thought what the heck i mmise well call. well she had been looking for a bus and traded even. The car has no rust, has been repainted, and runs like a champ with some charging issues. But the interior is shot, but it runs and drives for now rather well...
