Buying Questions- 300SD Transmission not Working

Hi,

I am considering a 300SD from clist and need some advice. The man writes as follows:

ONE DAY WHILE DRIVING, RAN OVER SOME BUSHES THAT SOMEONE HAD BY THE ROAD "IN THE MIDDLE AND FROM THAT DAY ON I DROVE IT HOME TO 3 HOUSES AWAY AND THEN ENDED UP BACKING UP, SEEMS THERE ARE VACUUM LINES THAT CAME OFF AND TRANSMISSION WONT GO INTO GEAR

Sounds to me like the shifter linkage maybe got disconnected or maybe vacuum (though I thought that it would still work even with a vacuum disconnect)...

Any thoughts?
Will

shifter linkage disconnected would mean only forward or only reverse (or only park).
vacuum connections missing would mean no gear changes for a later model car like this one.

If the seller isn't smart enough to fix it, (s)he probably doesn't deserve to own a nice Mercedes diesel (and/or has no clue on how to maintain it).
