Best guess

In my limited experience a different valve body and modulator and pressure settings. A very good transmission shop with lots of mercedes mojo and a strong motivation to educate would be helpful. My guess is that most transmission mechanics wouldn't know. So.... parts plus specialized knowledge and lots of shop time. How much is your time worth when you can buy the correct unit for less than $500 used probably with some kind of guarantee. Just sayin that spending half a day at least under your car is not my idea of a good time. Especially if you have to do it a few times to get the desired result. I just finished a 5spd swap and that was more work than I would like to repeat soon. Cheers Dan

I agree with bigblockchev, If you have both trannys side by side, you might be able to see what kind of physical differences there are between the two as well beside the valve body and pressure settings.

A couple months ago, I tried to put a 300TD automatic tranny into a 240D that had a busted automatic. I discovered that yes they bolted up, but the tranny oil cooler lines were in totally different places, necessitating custom lines, and especially controls, which were on opposite sides of the case. It turned out to be just way more work than I expected. I decided against it since it was only a temporary thing anyway.
