a/c compressor clutch spacing?
Anyone know the spec for the a/c compressor clutch air gap for a Nippondenso 10PA15C? A google search found one reference to "about a half millimeter" while another reference said 0.021"-0.036" which is about a half to three-quarters millimeters but neither was specific to MB.
Oh, does anyone know how this clutch actually works? When assembled, I didn't see or feel any in/out play in the clutch or pulley so I don't know how the clutch makes contact with the pulley when the coil is energized. Does the clutch just flex toward the pulley when energized to make contact?

When energized, the coil pulls back the clutch plate so it's pressed against the pulley. Then hub of the clutch plate is keyed to the compressor shaft. Friction spins the the clutch plate with the pulley.
Energize the clutch with the engine off and you'll see the clutch plate shift back ever so slightly to close the air gap. Sixto 87 300D |
