85 is the last year for the 126 with 617.

Apparently a 126 comparably equipped to a 123 with the same engine is actually lighter....using the excellent posting by Forced Induction showing all model weights with each engine, comparing the 280e to the 280se

....hard to believe though.

This 300sd has been the recipiant of a thought to be good used motor and has covered only about 300 miles since. Apparently the engine was checked for compression and tested very well. But it began acting up soon after and now is hammering like a hammer on an anvil. I am wondering if the previous engine broke in a major way and some debris might have been overlooked in the oil cooler.

Would debris there go right to the filter?

Maybe the filter is plugged. Of course if the filter is plugged the bypass would kick in and perhaps then there is debris in the rod bearing causing failure.

Does this make sense?

I am back on the na idea now....will the oil cooler lines from the turbo bolt up to the na engine?

Will a turbo injection pump work on a na engine?

The second question is because my euro pump won't mate up with the cruise control throttle linkages. (cannot have an sd without cruise!)

I am wanting to purge off my TD if that helps... runs like rust. Seriously I need to do a few things and try to sell it. I just can't have 4 cars. My SD is my baby and the most reliable car I have ever owned so it cant go. My 300d is the project with loads of money invested... it can go for the right price. The TD is really just used as a truck. I am too tall for the w123, plus I really dont like w123's. I dont know who I was trying to fool.

My question is this:
You can, and should, replace the rod bearings in a 1989-1995 sho with the engine in the car. Can the same be done with a 617? That engine must sound awful for you to seriously consider putting a NA 617 in there. And on the flip side that SD must be very very nice for you to consider putting another engine in there. I would love to see it sometime.

Having seen this 1985 300SD, I can attest that it looks very nice when opening the driver's door. Just peeking in thru the windows has great appeal.

It was designed for:

240D 3.0
W115.114
1974-1976
OM617.910
GVW: 3,450

300D
W115.114
1975-1976
OM617.910

then carried over, and was re-designed for the turbo in 1978..

I believe you mean actual weight not GVW.

two more questions:

1. Does anybody know the difference between an injection pump for a 617 na and a 617 turbo? Can I use the turbo pump on my na?

2. If I swap out the diff for a 346 to accompany my 300 na can I get the speedo to match it? I believe the 85 is an electronic drive speedo instead of mechanical. Will a 123 speedo fit in a 126 dash?

Perhaps an M110 powered W126 may work correctly ('85 and older, 280SE/L).

My later I6 car has a 3.46:1 diff.

wasn't the turbo 617 developed for the 111 race car? then detuned and oil pump modified and put in the 116SD first?
I understand the 240 euro vehicle was the first 617 powered vehicle in 74, but the first TURBO powered 617 was the 111 and the first production vehicle powered by the 617 TURBO was the 116 chassis 300SD right?

Ooo thanks! Those are pretty rare though. (I thought the 123 280es had the 3.58 diff)
