Car Alarm Keeps going off randomly

Hi Guys,

I have a 1987 W124 300 D Turbo. recently, the car alarm has been going off randomly, at random times. Like at 5AM waking up the neighbors
What is causing this problem? How can i fix it

I have had a aftermarket radio installed about 7 years ago,

I checked the fuse box and no fuses were blown.

Thanks for the help!

Disconnect it. This began to occur on my SDL and on my SD, no one is going to steal them.

Is the alarm system wire connected to the radio headunit?

Lift up the rugs on passenger side, keep digging until you find the little black box right under where feet would go. Unplug it.

I also removed the tilt switch (a big white can) under the rear seat, driver's side.

And also removed the alarm horn under the hood.

All dead weight, gone.

I had to disconnect mine under the passenger footwell also. Wasn't worth the trouble/cost to track down and fix the thing, and I got tired of looking like I was stealing my own car.

Easiest solution is disabling it.

OK Guys,

I think if we put our knowledge together, we can fix the problem, and we dont have to pay arm and leg

I ran a couple diagnostics:

If your hood is open exposing the latch, but still in the closed position, and your doors are locked, if you pull the latch to open the hood, the alarm should go off ( MINE DIDNT!)

If your doors are locked and someone is sitting inside the car and opens the door by tugging on the handle, the alarm should go off (mine did)

SO, what component of the alarm is connected to the hood, i think if we solve that we have solved the problem!

There is a switch for the hood located immediately outboard of the driver's side shock mount along the fender's edge. Its mounted in a stamped steel bracket, the 30 amp blower fuse is usually located in the black plastic holder in between. The same type of switch as are located in the door jambs.

I would first disconnect the anti-tow sensor under the left rear passenger footwell (lift up the carpet). It's a round white plastic thing. Just unplug it. Dealers did that in the early years when these things still went there for service and complaints were rampant. Later W124 alarms eliminated that "feature."

Is there a neighborhood cat jumping onto the car at random times?
If you just leave the stickers on the windows saying an alarm is fitted it normally gets the thief to go find another car.
