European style headlights for W123
After a year long search I found Euro style headlights for my 83' 300D, and they were almost worth the trouble, time, and expense. They provide very noticibly better illumination over the US style round headlights, and transform the appearance of the car.
Now that I am actively searching for another W123 diesel (wagon or coupe - or both...) I will want the same headlights. However, the price and time it took to find a decent used set of Euro lights is something I wish to avoid. (They cost almost $1000 Cdn. to buy and install...but they were new, imported from Germany) So, I will research through this forum to find sources of Euro headlights in advance of my search for another suitable 123, and hopefully spare myself the expense & hassle. Are there any places in North America that sell new Euro style lights for W123's? I am leery of used stuff, as thru my other non-Mercedes projects (Italian Motorcycles, American MuscleCars, & Volvo P1800's) I have found that used stuff rarely lives up to the sellers description, and I have had to settle for junk that needed some sort of work & additional expense. By the way, I would rather sell my Hemi GTX than my stodgy looking old 300D. I have recently developed a real affection for these diesels. Could that be age and maturity setting in? Oh Dread....Soon I will be developing a taste for Lagavulin or some such thing. |

Try this website:
http://www.capitolwest.com/mercedes_exterior_accessories.htm I'm sure there are lots of others but this is the one I had bookmarked. Good luck. I want a pair of those lights myself but unfortunetely don't have that much disposable cash right now. good luck. Alex |

Ducati,
I'll tell ya' what! I'll trade you a 300D with a fresh engine for the Hemi GTX! I do totally understand your love for the little clattering contraption. Have a great day |

If importing a vehicle from Canada is as much of a hassle as bringing an American car up to Canada, it won't be worth it. Besides, there is no gas available with the octane needed to drive the Plymouth. It is a 425 HP lawn ornament. The diesel...well, it is the most useful and frugal car I have ever owned. Is your 300 a coupe? In truth, I would seriously consider some kind of exchange deal for a nice SL.

You may be able to find high octane fuel from a supplier of racing fuels for race cars (at least I can in San Antonio,Texas - I have seen it sold in 55 gallon drums). Another source may be air craft fuel suppliers. As I recall (it has been many years since I raced), some small airplane engines require 110 octane fuel (as I recall) which should be OK to use in your hemi. We used to use the higher octane (120+ octane?) air plane fuel when we drag raced. Of course, there may be some legal restrictions on buying aviation fuel in Canada. Seems a shame to let the GTX just sit!

Legavulin!!
Ducati,
Funny you mentioned Legavulin....I too love my diesel, and I also love Legavulin....I picked up a bottle of 18 year old when I was in Scotland years ago....went to the Isle of Islay and had fun sampling the single malts...Legavulin was the one I brought home...very much like our diesels....nice and smokey!! I am also looking into replacing my lights with Euro ones. That site only has Euro lights for the SL. There has to be someone that knows where we can get Euro lights for the W123

SV,
That site does sell euro lights for the W123. They're listed at $239 a piece. Alex |
