Tom,
You want to go from a brown metalic to a brown none metalic, and the shade of brown is close, probably not be noticable.

say going from a brown to a silver, then it really looks bad, have to do the door jambs, under hood inner enders etc ...

I have seen cars at PNP where there was an extreme color change. even if the door jambs were painted, they started to peel because bad preperation.

Preperation is everything.

Happy Wife, Happy Life!

Charlie

My wagon is Maganese Brown... I love it, except for the heat factor.

The inside of the jambs where it's still nice & shiny make me long for the day when I can go full "ducatipaso" on it.

I have a brochure for the '85 model year. It has paint chips for all colors of interior and exterior.

I finally picked up the car from my Indie today. it runs wonderfully. smooth and quiet (for a 617). I have not taken a trip yet but I drove it enough to notice the cruise does not work. I have not found anything else though that does not.

BTW I saw a mangenese bround 107 a couple of days ago and did a triple take. It looked pretty nice!

Very unusual color for a 107.

I thought at first it was an SLC but no.

We did not change the sleeves on this one because it appeared to be a low miles rebuild. It has a little smokey blow by, but we are hoping that will subisde with some miles.

Now I am thinking of paint.

Still no decision on the colour? I think that Manganese Brown looks good on a W123 - I'm not so sure on a W126 - and I don't think it is a sports car colour. There is a Manganese Brown W126 just round the corner from me... I'll sneak some photographs if you like!

I'm of the opinion that the W126 is too modern for the colour / the colour is too old fashioned for the W126. I think Manganese Brown looks good on a W123 - when it is clean! - and when there is lots of nice chrome. (I'm biased)

I am still leaning toward mocca which is similar without the metalflake.

According to the site Manganese Brown was only until 84, but again that was for the W123.
Interesting... Both my 81 and my 85 have Gold... The closest I see listed would be http://www.astralsilber.de/farbcodes/419_ikonengold.jpg

Which by the chart was only available 76-79....

I am under the impression that astral silver is the most common color. I have a 1985 SD I bought a year ago that is silver. I stumbled into a hell of a deal on another 85 SD that is silver, so twin SD's. And klaus sold me a 1985 SD parts car. Guess what?...yep you guessed it. Astral silver...what is it with me and silver cars??? All blue interior too!

This is why I love the greens, reds, and other rarer colors. Green on any other car is just butt ugly, but on a W123 or W126, these colors are just worn very well by these old body styles.

I am actually thinking of two toning it. I am somewhat reluctant because most of the time I don't like the way they look but I would like the functionality of a lighter top surfaces and down to the character line along near the top of the side.

My car is rust free but has a zillion dings on both sides as if it had been in a garage next to another car and it got the door opened every day for 20 years and banged. I noticed the ss on the pass side yesterday is battered along a 2' length so it is rippled and looks as if it is a piece of thin tape glued on like the trim in the door sill of a 123.

I'd do the top in a dove gray or something complementary to the manganese and keep either the manganese on the sides front and rear or the mocca.

I think I'll start a thread and ask for pictures of successful two tones on 126's.

Thanks for the thoughts guys!

Great idea with the new 2-tone thread for 126's!
