The crush washer can be any material that is impervious to diesel fuel and can form to the housing when torqued a bit. Aluminum works as does a composite gasket I bought at the local hardware store, a number 30 cap thread gasket, #35566B, outside diameter doesn't matter. The one I drew arrows to came out of that plastic bag, it's gray in color.
The epc the dealer uses is better than the one available to us, but is just as confusing, so it seems.

It`s easy to update to the later style. go to the JY, PNP etc... and pull one from a 82 to 85 300D. I know for sure 84 & 85 have them. Just a simple R&R. I installed one on the 80 240D. never leaks or causes me any trouble. when it does weep, I just change the "O" rings. I probly should change at every filter change, but don`t.

I think the "O" rings are a better design than the crush washers. after while they gouge into the aluminium seat of the housing causing it to seal w/o a ton of force on the bolt to stop the leak.

According to my old Bosses Navy Machinist Mates Manual if you heat a Copper Washer red hot and cool it; it can often be reused if it is not to mangled up.

Heating it softens it. With Copper it does not matter if you cool it fast or slow so just dunk it in water.

There has been times at work when I took a round file and enlarged the hole in a Copper washer to make it fit.
Sometimes it is also possible to stretch them a little by sliding them over a tapered Punch and using a Deep Socket to push down on them and enlarge the ID.

None of the above works with Aluminum Washers.

let me say that the big FF doesn't have any O ring
but the smaller pre filter DOES have one that slides up..

Just wanted to bump and confirm the above information is accurate. The 14x19x2.5 is indeed good for sealing the top of the later two ring banjo bolt. Got my metric value pack from AutoZone, 6.99 was my local price.

Now after a few miles of running, I have a dry filter head, and no wasted go juice on the ground.
