Oil on my injector, lots of blowby

This is on my 124 with 365K. Am I looking at a cracked piston or a hole in the piston? I shouldn't complain if it made it this far...

Hey, dont be so negative so quick!!
If you had a cracked piston you would hear a bad knock.
Did the blow by suddenly get real bad, blowing breather hose off type stuff?
It could just be bad rings.
Have you done a comp test?
If you can get your hands on one of those nifty little cameras that you can poke down the injector hole & have a look at the bore, you would know much more.
At worst put a second hand motor in it!

Be specific here, you mean after you pull the injector out, and how are you measuring blowby?

um, wouldn't that just show the inside of the PC? get a nice view of the glow plug...
to see the piston, you'd need to pull the PC (pull glow plug first!)
rings are more likely.

What cylinder is the injector oiled up on? Number one the head gasket has possibly failed.

Its the number 4 cylinder. No, I haven't done a comp. test. It seemed to come on relatively quickly. There is no loud knock. Otherwise the car seems to run ok, except, I forgot to mention in the original post, the miss at idle. As for the replacement motor... I don't think so unless I can find one REAL cheap. I got 365K out of this one, I'm not complaining.

If you had a hole in a Piston you would have extremely obvious poor runing Engine at all speeds.
With the Oil Fill Cap off every time that holed piston would come around you would get a burst of Air and Oil mist. The last Diesel Engine I saw with that condition and was about the same size as a Mercedes the Air-Oil-Mist chuffed out about 2 feet above the Engine.

The part of the Exhaust Manifold from that cylinder might be way colder than the others also.

I guess its not a hole in the piston then. It doesn't run bad after you get above 13-1500 rpm's. When you remove the oil cap, with it running, a lot of air and oil is blown out. Could it just be worn rings, or a stuck or cracked ring?

Yes to the above or a Head Gasket.
As said previously a Compression Test might be revealing.
