There is a member up here in CT selling a M103 long block for $500 if you want a cheap coupe. I could swear that 1990 was the year that the coupes started coming with the M104 though, are you positive that you have an M103? I guess it wouldn't matter if you're swapping in a diesel since they both mount up, but there are significant electrical differences between those two engines.

And who said it was built for the V-8?

your right

I would think a different driveshaft can be found easily for a coupe.

But wait a min.... is this car coming with the bad engine/tranny still in it? If so then all the stuff is there already.

Babymog:

I think that the wheelbase doesn't factor into the equation, as long as the original driveshaft stays with the car. Only the transmission and engine will be swapped. The engine and trannies are the same length as measured from the motor mount centerline to the rear flange of the transmission, whether in coupe, wagon, or sedan.

While you may be right that the driveshafts are different between coupes, sedans, and wagons (I don't know myself), that shouldn't matter when swapping in a different engine/trans.

I was probably confusing the issue (needlessly) in my own mind with the 5-speed thing.

Silly me, I thought that I was pointing out that the 603 fits, as well as other engines. Clearly implied it was designed for the V-8? Whatever makes you happy I guess.

Why not install a OM603 and turn it into a diesel sports car.

Isn't that the plan?

He was originally talking 602, but pretty much the same idea.
