An old water cooler compressor solved the problem of having to pump up my Pella nicely

Has anyone tried one of these? 12 volt DC oil/fuel pump with battery post clamps.

Go back to Posts #1 and #2.
No need for electrics, both of the units in those posts do a great job. Just get the oil about halfway warm. |
Apparently Kent agrees with you.

This is my setup I made. 5 gal helium tank, 12V diaphram vac pump. No hose inserted in dipstick tube. Dipstick tube is the suction tube. If I can find a 2 gallon glass wine jug, that'd make the setup even better so I can see exactly how much came out.

Yes. Commercial/dealer extraction devices hook up to the dipstick tube.

Is this true of the M601 engine? 2.2 Liter?
|
What about using a vacuum pump from a W124?
Has anyone tried that? |

Yes I was thinking of the central locking vacuum pump. But maybe you would not need to run it continuously. If you had a line lock like Ken does in the video you could run it create a vacuum in the tank and release the lock.
It may also be with it to try the engine vacuum pump with a motor on it. |
Kent's 2nd shoot out video, the first link I provided above, compares the volume of oil left in both the engine oil sump and the transmission oil sump using the drain plug versus an extractor. I'm sold.
FYI, check out the Amazon.com reviews of the Topsider. Lots of comments about the hand-pump cap threads being too short and slipping off its threads =>losing vacuum. Quote:

Edit: smaller I.d. tubing is less prone to collapse than larger I.d. Choose smallest I.d.that will stretch over the dipstick tube. I think mine was 3/4 " I.d. and I softened it with hot water before stretching it over the tube. |
