haha, not so much in LA
everyone and their mom drives a Benz
you would be waving all day long

also there are lots of diesel 123 drivers in my area near Venice beach, it's the "in thing" to have a diesel that is "veggie powered" or "biodiesel powered"

I neither wave at them...just let 'em SWOON over my W210, haha

Most local folks wave here in Vermont, but I have noticed that the few vintage Benz owners seem to studiously ignore other drivers and the late model Benz drivers are from away and don't know about the friendly wave.
Go figure

I wave at any MB older than a W123 - as well as all W123s of course. There is little point waving at newer MB company car drivers here... they'd probably take it as an insult anyway and follow you home.

124s and 126s if they're diesel, pretty much any diesel, and otherwise only 123 and older M-Bs. Most of those owners are enthusiasts of some sort.

Although the 123 owners don't always wave back, think I'm probably just another hood-star wannabe.

Reading all of these posts, it is very strange to see how some answer/ handle this. I wave and say hello to many people and could care less how they respond. We need more polite and friendly people in the world, it only takes one wave and smile at a time.

Cheers !

I wave, not always returned. Its manditory in an older Jeep, but it seems the new Jeep guys are too good to wave back. I think their so pretty and comfy now they attract a completely different crowd, they are too busy texting to wave.......

being a former 'old jeep' owner, I experienced the same thing. I just dont believe the owners you mention are even aware of the "Same car!" friendly wave.

Think of it this way....the future success of the brand depends upon the influx of many new owners. Much of these new owners are not going to know the friendly communications of other owners....or they are just jerks...either way, maybe an ad campaign is needed.

I wave if I'm waved to. Which happened to me twice. There's not a whole lot of old benzes around here in Utah...

Generally yes although the chances of me doing it increase with the age of the other car

When I had my w123, I used to see a cream, early 80's SD all the time. We would always seem to see each other at lights, and be yelling over the engine noise to each other. Now that I have the w124, people don't seem to notice as much, as the car is so much less ancient looking; ie, not so classic.

I can be annoying to others.....sometimes.

4 situations.

  1. It seem like I was starting to annoy people when I would wave to them. Here I am driving my Dodge diesel truck and they are in a w123 or w126 diesel; so I quit waving.
  2. Last night, I was minding my business in the slow lane when a w126 blew my doors off; upon catching up to it, I found it to be a 300SD. I clocked the woman driver doing 81mph. So if you have Desota county, Mississippi tags, you know I'm the guy in the truck. I would have waved if I had been in a Mercedes diesel.
  3. I always wave when I driving Ben and catch people giving me the "double look".
  4. I also wave to one owner of a SLK 280. We had a discussion about what kind of car seats were in the back of my truck and WHY.

Being in the "201" club, I get waves from other 201 owners, especially from diesels, and I always wave back cheerfully. Other MB chassis owners give me the odd quizzical look like "what the hell are you driving THAT thing for" or some such remark - (I am 6 ft 6) - Occasionally, I will get a wave from a 123 or 124 driver who happens to be burning biodiesel. I guess the bio-burners are in a different category altogether...

There is a guy in town that has the EXACT same model W124 (color too) that I have. I wave every time I see him.

I wave at most Benz's but I noticed the newer gassers just look at me as a "kid with a benz"
(90% of people think I am 23-24 but I am 30)
and they don't wave

but all the classics tri-stars I wave at 123 124 126's
usually the classic drivers wave back gas or diesel

I do wave at more strangers (good lookin ones)
because they are looking at my car for longer periods of time than most cars you don't see any
300 SDL's around here

I was at the pump with a V-12 AMG on the other side pumping gas and a guy came up to me to ask about my car and not the AMG... makes me feel good
