If you're heading toward each other, how do you know it's a diesel until it passes you?

For some reason, there are several W 123 240D doors, all the same color, in the same county here in Michigan . We wave when we see each other.

Whenever I drive any Citroen, I get honks, waves and an occasional question at the stop light.

Wonder what the reaction will be when I finish the Afrika-Korps style W 136 ! I'll have to find a beige officer's cap and goggles to go with it!

Someone posted a video of John Lovitz in a PreWar MB, a while back. Verry funny. I hope you don't have that experience.

Until I bought the Mercedes, no one (that I didn't know personally) had waved at me since I had a Jeep Wrangler. Back then, anyone with a CJ/Wrangler would wave as they passed me. The other day I was in the Mercedes and a girl on the back of a motorcycle waved at me. I don't think there is another like mine around, so I don't think she mistook me for someone else. It's a decent looking car, but not anything that really stands out. Weird.

I tend to wave. .

and this weekend I ended to talking to two M-B owners. first guy was in a 1992 300E, I pulled in right next to him. And then he asked "what year is that one??" I told him 87 and his eyes got big. Even though he was in a gasser we told me he used to drive diesels. . knew all about the 3.0L only in 87. . used to have a 91 300D. . nice guy.

next guy was also in a gasser but this time a 1990 300S.. . .(the W126 with a straight 6)

REALLY nice car. E-codes, 17inch AMG mono-blocks. . .nice ride

I've just relocated from Texas to North Carolina and I've been waved at a few times! I am not used to it -- even though everyone waves at everyone in Texas -- and am late getting my hand in the air. But I like it a lot, I'm glad people notice. I'm going to try to be first more often now...

It depends on what part of Texas you're in. In big cities like Dallas and Houston, a wave will get you a confusing look. If you're on a dirt road in Leon County, you'll get plenty of waves, regardless of what you're driving.

I wave to 126's and older although 123's and older drivers tend to be the one's who wave back. There are a couple 123's, with older owners, that I see often and wave every time. After about the fifth time of me waving, they now wave back.

Being a Jeep Wrangler owner (where you wave at every Willys/CJ/YJ/TJ you pass), having grown up in a boating family (where you waved at every boat you passed) and a Corvette family (where you wave at every one you passed) it just seemed like a logical progression. It's also somewhat interested that when passing other cars on the farm roads around here, everybody seems to wave at each other regardless of what your driving, even though no one waves while driving on the pavement unless they know each other.

My experience has been the vast majority of TJ drivers will return, or initiate, the wave but very few JK drivers do. There have been some interesting threads on some Jeep forums as to whether you should even wave to JK owners or not, whether or not they were "real" Jeeps. Of course, there was the same discussion when the TJ's rolled out since they had coil springs.
