Your '96 has a 21.1 gallon fuel tank.....your MPG beliefs are faulty. (Way off.....) '96 E300Ds do not get 42 MPG - nor anywhere near it.....if they did, they would go 886 miles per tank - NOT ONLY 550 miles per tank. Last edited by Skid Row Joe; 10-18-2010 at 11:57 PM. |

Here u calculate this I filled it up n drive in highway for 196 miles n I filled it up n it only took 4.6 gallons. When I calculate it I was shocked. I was going all 60 MPH n taking uphills easy.

The car has a 21.1 gallon fuel tank, you should be getting 886 miles per tank.....NOT "550 per tank." |

You claimed: 42 MPG, which translates to 886 miles per tank. Were that true, you would not only be getting only 550 miles per tank. The car has a 21.1 gallon fuel tank, so you should be getting 336 miles per tank MORE. I believe your calculations are off. |

Do you guys really believe that Kinghais doesnt have a 16 gallon tank?
If the dude thinks his tank is 16 gallons or 5 gallons, does it matter? Quote:
Next, what does the fuel gauge reading "2/4" have to do with traveling 237 miles? Does anyone else agree 'indicated 1/2 full' has nothing to do with 50% capacity? It has been my experience in many vehicles '1/2 full' on the gauge is in actuality about 3/8 capacity. OK, so who here LOVES their W210? We are having good service from ours so far. Two thumbs up.

So, when anyone claims that their car gets 42 MPG, but only goes 550 per tank fill - they are missing 336 miles of distance somewhere. So, when they make a wild claim of getting 42 MPG on a 21.1 gallon fuel tank - however, need to fuel up every 550 miles. If his car really got 42 MPG, it would go a distance of 886 miles per tank. It tells the story about their original claim of "42 MPG." |

I'm very happy for you. However, many miss the point.
These cars, '96 -'99 E300s are not capable of the wild claims of MPG many are making. Anytime they deliver 30 to even 32 mpg on any fill-up - you are calculating the upper end of what they are capable of. They are not capable of consistently returning anything over 30 MPG. No way in Haites. |

550 miles per tank, on a 21.1 gallon fuel tank, ain't 42 MPG. That single claim of MPG mileage proves nothing. These cars are not capable of 42 MPG. If they were - mine would have achieved it in the past 11.5 years of owning and driving it since new in 122K miles. |

And if I prove otherwise, would you believe me?
And after all of that, what is the point?

Start filling up, then clocking your miles driven until the engine dies from the tank being empty. - That's my answer to you. If they were capable of getting the MPG many claim, I would have also achieved it. They do very well to return any tank fill up of 30 or better. You might even have a fluke tank fill of 34 MPG. The rest are miscalculations - and are definitely not tanks run from full to empty. If the guy that claims his car gets 42 MPG, runs any tank until the engine dies from being empty - he will understand why his car doesn't go 886 miles per tank. He will then understand why he has been filling up at the 550 mile mark per tank. |
