At one time there was a rumor that there was a city in China called Usa. Merchandise made in that city could say "Made in USA."

Do you think there is a city in China named "Germany?"

One more comment about Uro. I recently used Uro Lower Control Arm bushings on my '81 300SD. There were two sets of part numbers molded into the center rubber piece. One was the MB part number and another was a different set of numbers. Both the original and Uro had the same sets of numbers. Could Uro be supplying MB?

Jumping in late:
I had the boots on URO ball joints and tie rod ends disintegrate before they were installed! It is common for them to crack in half but these disintegrated.

Which companies do napa use? I love my PBR organic brake pads, there made in Australia. I get everything from napa for less than wholesale price...

The first Uro product I bought was an air conditioning hose assembly. The hoses themselves had the name Goodyear and the winged shoe logo on them.

Looks like people had mixed results with URO, just to make sure I did an inspection this morning for play and boot integrity on my tierods...all seems fine so far.

Sounds like a good plan, BlackCDI. I crawl all over the undercarriage of my cars everytime I do an oil change. Nothing has sneaked up on me yet. I also spray silicone lubricant (3M) on all my rubber parts.

One more comment about country of origin for parts. I have bought a number of Bosch injector nozzles over the years. They have come from Turkey, France and Germany. Couldn't tell any difference between them. In fact, the Bosch plant that was rated #1 by Bosch in the mid 90s was their plant in Charleston, SC. Don't know what they made there, but they must have done a good job.

I think URO is a reboxer and will obtain any brand of part, bag it, and sell it.
Maybe that explains variability.

I bought an URO chrome grill assembly for my w124, chrome was so thin it rusted showingly after a few showers. Tossed it. Great price, though!! eesh

That's not a direct comparison because Bosch is a manufacturer and hopefully imposes a full quality regimen wherever production takes place. There was discussion about quality differences with Bosch nozzles made in India. There's also discussion about the amount of gin waste in oil filters depending on where they're made. So it doesn't always work.

I infer from Uro's website that they neither manufacture OE products nor work with the manufacturer. Seems to me they do a fair amount of reverse engineering and/or take over someone else's tooling. That's not necessarily a bad thing. Beck/Arnley makes it work or at least used to. I'm sure some junk got into the mix but I haven't seen a Beck/Arnley sucks thread yet

I have limited exposure to Uro steering components, but I find it strange that the joints are very stiff when new. I can hardly move the pins by hand. After a little use, the joints are considerably looser. Compare this with MB brand equivalents which are relatively loose when new, barely tighter than the components they're replacing, but don't feel much looser after a few thousand miles. I don't know which situation is right but in the absence of better information I'll assume OE or at least OEM is the baseline.

That is exactly it, they rebox. So they find the cheapest (or only) available part of that type, and rebox it as theirs. Hence the wide range of quality. I don't buy Uro stuff at all, not worth the trouble.

Most of what they sell is junk.

NAPA tends to source the good stuff, since they sell it in a store, and a person is more likely to "need" it, and pay whatever it costs. I got a distributor rotor for my 300E at napa to replace a Bosch (spain) unit that failed after a year. The NAPA part was made in Italy, had been perfect ever since (long outlasted the Bosch)....it did cost over 2x as much though.
