85 300SD Cruise Control

I checked the DIY links but could not find anything there so here goes. The cruise control work intermittently. If I am going down the road and engage it sometimes the throttle will increase and as soon as I release the stalk it goes off. Other times it works like a champ. Does anyone have a diagram for the layout of the cruise control. Is it vacuum controlled ( replace all vac lines ?)
electrically controlled ? Where does it get input from etc.
Thanks
Alan

The usual culprit is a failing amp, (cold solders, I would think) located on the steering column. It's all electronic.
A pic here Cruise control amp 83 300d
A silver box with a smaller one attached, it's easier to take 'em both out.

Bob, Thanks. I will take a look at it. As I said it works intermittently.

Some place will fix 'em, only if you didn't try first. I have those two laying around.

Red face

If you are at all handy with a soldering iron you might try resoldering all the amp connections..I did 3 years ago and it is still working fine...

Search for "cold solder".
Here's one, I meant re-flow, not re-low.

I had the same problem with my 86 SDL
I thought it was the switch (lever) so i got one from the PNP since it was cheap
the "new switch" made it work more often but it would speed surge sometimes
sometimes it didn't work at all
other times it would catch and work

so i put a cruise amp (AL. box about 9in.x4in.x 1in. located behind parking brake release and a little to the right..for those who might not know where it is) from an 85 SD
and now it works everytime
