Someone did suggest a replacement in that long thread, it was per suggestion from a Bosch shop that the existing unit be replaced with one from a VE pump which was a screen and a small restricted orifice.

I'm checking fuel pressure on my car later today to see if this is an issue.

As a side, I assume the non-serviceable can be replaced with the semi-serviceable unit?
