Question Stinky/musty warm air

My '84 300D has 217K miles on the clock and I've had it for about 5K miles. It was originally owned by a pilot who bought it new, drove it to 199K miles, and was very meticulous in his record keeping.

Since I've owned the car, there hasn't been any cold air coming from the vents. With the hot and humid Toledo weather, I finally decided to try and get it fixed. I took it to my local mechanic. He said the compressor and drier are in good working condition. He recharged the system with r-134 (previously converted at some point) and said it held the proper pressure. He can't figure out why it's not coming through the vents at this point though. What are some likely suspects?

Also, If any of you are around the Toledo, OH area and either know of a good mechanic or are willing to quote the work, let me know.

Let me clarify: there is air coming out with plenty of force, but its just not cold. I'm pretty sure the blower motor is fine.

R134A doesnt wotk well with the AC system on these cars. There are alot of AC gurus on the board, hope they chime in. Im getting 60F on my vents with 134 and 100F ambient. It used to be 38F. Compressor is my suspect. Did you set it to max cooling and still doesnt get cold? Are you blowing heated air? Is the aux. fan working? Too many variables to consider.

Monovalve stuck open?

Does the compressor suction line feel cold when the compressor is engaged?

Why do you call this fellow a mechanic?

Since the system was converted to 134a by the PO, do you have any way of knowing if the expansion valve was changed? If no, its possible that it needs changing. I had to change mine before I got good, cold air...

give me some firm numbers.
temp in car, outside, temps of lines entering condenser, and leaving condenser, also leaving evaporator. and finally, the temps of the air leaving the vents.
all this with the car idling and the windows down, and a fan blowing in front of the car if possible, if not, at least have the aux fan running.
