115 hp 240d

will shortly be removing and replacing my clutch master and slave cylinders. car in question is a 79 240d. have done
the requisite search. one question remains. is there any suggestion on how best to handle the hydraulic line that
runs from the resevour to the master cylinder? do not want to have resevour run dry. no not want fluid running all
over the place. also, best place to order replacement parts? thank you.

You can clamp the supply hose to the MC with some wood and locking pliers, but if the hose is old, it will likely break (mine did). I ended up having to remove the clutch master cylinder to attach the new supply hose.

Best way is to empty the reservoir to just below the suction line. I used a hand vacuum pump to siphon out. To be on the safe side, don't actuate the brakes until after the clutch work is completed.

I'm glad to see that you are replaceing both master and slave. When I first got my 240 D it had a leaking clucth master cylinder so I replaced it on first trip to town (40 miles) it blew out the slave cylinder ,I got it home by starting it in third gear and then double clucthing it into fourth was a hairy trip as there are many grades, it also soaked my clucth in brake fluid witch made it chatter for a few weeks...
