I use 5w40 diesel rated oil in my 99 S.

Avarec 08-23-2010 03:56 PM

whats the benefit of that for a gasser?
oil being cooler?

I tried Castrol 15W-40 in my car and the lifters formed a choir. I went back to Delo 15W-40 3600 miles later and I'm down to a soloist.

If you use the FSS, you have to use a full synthetic. I use Mobile 1 Turbo Diesel Truck in my car. As I remember, it's 5W-40.

Mobil brought back the 0w/40 European Blend too. It disappeared for a few years. That was our factory fill from 97 - 99.

Not certain if it is the exact same product ours were shipped with, but it does have the same name and meets spec........

The 5w40 oil is a bit thicker then the 0w40 oil and provides a bit more protection. I would go with the 5w40 personally, even though it doesn't have the official mercedes approval.

Change the NAME on the Container to:

Mobil 1

Or

Redline

AND you'll be O.K.
(Never Run ANY oil less than 5 (THAT'S FIVE,NOT ZERO) W 40 in a Diesel,
NO MATTER WHAT STUTTGART SAYS!)
