How do you check if a fan clutch is bad? I heard from somewhere that if it has been running for a long while that it will continue to spin after you shut down the engine. If any member can tell me how to do an easy check on the fan clutch it would be appreciated. 1983 SD.

go for a drive, get the car up to temp, then pop hood, and stand in front of motor and hit the stop button. fan should not turn more than 2ish rotations after motor stops. and you should feel plenty of friction in the fan with it hot.
