But anyway...
unless there are cracks in the disk(s) they are good.

If the parts you inspect are not serviceable(ie. broken) then they are still good. There is no need in replacing stuff that still has a useful service life.... unless it's hard to get to and it's cheap! Ie. crank position sensor in a gasser.

I come from the aircraft maintenance world. Those parts are not cheap by any stretch of the imagination. Owners of aircraft get every last bit of life out of a part before it's replaced/fails.

All these $20 and $30 parts add up after a while. Bottom line... if it's still good don't replace it.

ANY cracks in the flex disks means they are toast and WILL fail....at some point. Maybe in 2 days or in 10 years... do you feel lucky punk?

Crack = Serviceable

got it. I replaced my rear flex joint when I had my trailing arm fail. probably should have done the front too at that time. I need to get the tranny mount done, I'll do the flex joint at the same time.

MC either you have been spilling brake fluid on your booster, or the rear seal is leaking fluid. it's possible the MC was changed, and he reused the reservoir and there is a crack in it. NO it's not normal to leak fluid unless it's above the cap and you are changing pads in the calipers pushing fluid out.
flex discs, BAD I'd change them asap. they look as bad as my 82 originals were.
uh, he's kidding right? the CV boots are also identical to my 82 originals just before they started seeping oil... all old, all need replacement.

Any field data on the quality of "OEM" replacement flex discs? Which brands are good and which brands to avoid? For a critical part such as a flex disc, it may be prudent to buy a genuine Mercedes part.

Haha, no, none of the parts he said he replaced were new. He's a crook. Actually, they were all in NEED of replacing. The master cylinder grommets were dried out and cracked, that's why the leaking occurred.

He said he had thousands of dollars into these new parts. He said that the tires were near new with 80% tread. They were actually threadbare and none of them matched! The seats that he said were in great condition are completely collapsed with broken springs and ripped up, and the back seat is out of a W123 and is blue in a tan interior.

He said the paint looked great but it's a peeling and bubbling clearcoat nightmare! The only thing I think he was almost right on was his claim that it's a rust-free car. I still bought the car because it's the only Walnut Brown 300SD with sunroof I have ever seen for sale, let alone in my price range (though it was painted black at some point and I need to have it repainted back to the original color).

HA! I hope you didn't pay anywhere near asking price with that much total BS in the ad! I've seen the brown SD's in the yard ready for crushing and just wished I could buy them... nice leather interior too...

Reading this posts always freak me out. Are the front and back the same part number for my 87
300sdl? And what else should I replace while I’m in that area?

Thanks Michael

It looks too light. The Walnut Brown looks almost black from a distance.

crawl under there and grab hold of the tailshaft and see if the trans mount is soft or firm. firm is good. soft is OK, but not preferred, jello gunky or cracked is a bad thing.

One post said that if they are cracked they need to be replaced...this is true. However one said if it is not cracked they are ok My experience says otherwise. My 1993 190E needed a front flex disk at 104k and it looked ok "visually". Rubber even looked pretty fresh. Once it was removed though, the metal sleeves that the bolts go through were jarred loose and allowed significant play! My symptoms were the feeling of slack if I accelerated and let off suddenly, and there was a good clunk on easier, low rpm shifts.
