I am getting ready to reboot several sets of axles, so I'll have this answer for you soon. lemme know if you need a set of good MB rebooted axles. I'll be posting them in the for sale section. if you do a search for axle replacement in the DIY section, I know you will find pictures and full detailed instructions on how to do it.

I think most of the time you just re-use the clips and springs. W123 correct??

Got a set of seals if you want them- factory seals.

I re-used my clips and spacers. Call me if you need a hand - I just did this a couple weeks ago.

Tubes, they set the distance between the end of the spline and the washer that pulls it toward the end of the hub.

Original style from CVJ in Denver. They weren't cheap but I prefer a good part over one with a lifetime warranty but I have to replace it every year. My parts guy in FW (Steve's on Vickery) has a guy who rebuilds MB axles but I don't know the price or how good the work is. When I was shopping NAPA told me they could get them for $120 each. I thought that was expensive for Chinesium.

I cannot understand why someone would re boot old ones--they're 25 plus yrs old and are going to be clunking in no time.

All i can say is DO NOT use GSP axles, you will be replacing them quickly! I had them in for 3,000 miles maybe.. in that time the GSP's started spewing oil and the hex bolts nearly backed all the way out... My friend used them in his VW Rabbit and he's kicking himself too.

Axles aren't a job i want to keep redoing so i'd buy quality ones if i were you

Yep, that's why I bucked up and bought the expensive ones. It's not a hard job but it's messy and time consuming. If the CVJ axles last half as long as the MB ones I'll be pleased.

nobody would reboot clunking used axles, only ones that still have the factory seal and have not failed.
original MB axles that are still sealed, will FARRRRRRRRRRRR outlast anything anybody could rebuild. but ONLY if they are still retaining fluid. any leaks, and forget it!
