I need some help trouble shooting my starter, 83 300sd, It left me in the parking lot at the local discount store. The glowplug relay is the only thing that clicks. I tried moving the gear selector around and still no start. I then jumped a wire from the positive post of the battery to the purple wire on the terminal block on the right fender well. The only click was from the glowplug relay.
Is it the neutral saftey switch or the starter ? Thanks Ed

Once about three weeks ago it would not start, I moved the gear selector up and down then it started, as far as the starter it always sounded fine. When you jump the purple wire the starter should turn, correct ? When I put it in drive , and turn the key the glowplug relay makes no click like it does in park, so I assume that the nuetral saftey switch is working. I do have a good starter out of Gretta's donner.

It was a loose positive cable at the starter. I tightened it up and she fired up.
