W210 Blower Motor problems

What are the symptoms of the regulator going bad? I know the later 210's didn't have this problem but where is the cutoff?

KarTek 09-02-2010 06:13 AM

I believe the symptoms are the blower only running at low and high speeds, nowhere in between.

My best guess...

Mine will run (when set) at high speed then over the course of a minute or so, slow down to just a trickle of air, then sometimes just stop. If left on high, it eventually comes back on, at high speed. I'm baffled.

I think mine has done that too but not for long before returning to normal.

Blower Motor Help...

Hi-
Not sure if your chassis is the same as a w123 but I solved all my blower issues by doing the following:
A: Replace brushes on motor (easy to pry end off motor and replace brushes)
B: Replaced motor speed control relay w/ used one from Pick-n-Pull (located behind glove box- above where motor is just under dash pad- it's a silver box- one of two)
C: Replaced temperature control module w/ used one from Pick-n-Pull (located next to other box- the 2nd box of two)
I did replace my climate control module (on dash w/ temp. selector & all the various buttons) before doing the above work but it didn't help at all. After more research I found that it's uncommon for these to fail.
Your chassis should have some, if not all, of these blower motor components.
Hope that helps somewhat.
Cheers!

How about this,

Climite control type system, W210 1996. I can adjust the fan speed all the way up and down, and shut it off. I have no control over where it vents from. The display shows where, but I can not change it's setting. I can also not change temp, it only reads LO.
Toughts??
I already had a friend tell me to only drive it when its hot out, don't drive it when it's cold out and the LO temp. won't bother me. He is a very funny guy:mad:.

Have you run the onboard diagnostics? There are codes for communication loss.

If the blower resistor goes bad, the fan will run at a very low speed. If your car is an earlier model W210, the resistor is no longer available. You'll either have to

1) Adapt a W140 regulator (which looks somewhat similar to the small square w210 regulator.
2) Buy the larger new regulator, wiring harness adapter kit and a blower motor from a 2000+ W210.

I did the later, it cost me about $250 in parts.

Diagnostics?

Tell me more. I have no idea what to do. It seems like I CAN control the fan speed from off/slow and progressively up to fast. I have no control over anything else. it blows thru all vents now I think, and the indicator points up, center, and down.

if you can't change temp on the lcd panel, the control unit itself is bad. i don't know if the control unit can be repaired somehow.

Is there anyway to determine if we are getting enough airflow? On hot days it takes a very long time (to quote my wife...FOREVER) to get the cabin cooled down on a hot day.

The air coming out the vents is COLD, but at a very low volume. If it were blowing in your face, your hair wouldnt be blown back (assuming you have hair, LOL).

Thoughts?

(Looking forward to checking out Muleears W210 in the next few days).

That would be the blower regulator going out.
