I emailed the seller on this with no response yet. Now the listing is expired. Anyone else have any insight on this wagon?

Was there a phone number on the ad? I don't remember. I'm just getting the expiration notice now.

Nope, there was no number listed. Should've grabbed the plates off of it when it was up...

It's always a shame to see a good car take a serious hit, especially when you've done so much maintenance. The value of the car without all that maintenance is one thing but when you add in all the unseen costs that many today aren't willing to do it really brings the value up. Of course we know how insurance companies don't like to pay for the unseen.

The driving experience though has deteriorated all over the country. Driving conditions here in Iowa are and have been deteriorating for a couple years now, pretty steadily. Isn't a day that goes by that I don't see three or four people blatantly run a stop sign or red light as though that were the new normal. Add that with speeding and tailgating and you get a lot more frequent accidents by people, in my area at least, who may or may not have insurance, regardless as to whether that's the law or not.

There are certain times of the day when I won't go out on the road simply because there are too many people who think that if they just press the accelerator a little further all will be well, sort of like the govt suggesting that if they just spend a little more money all will be well...ha!

Oh God.

I just put all receipts from the last 2.5 years since buying this "cheap wagon"...

I cried for about 20 mins, now I'm barely able to compose myself to seek comfort from the group. Least to say, I will not share the amount. Extremely ashamed. But it's what I get for usually buying new parts and spinning off work to the indie when I think I have an urgent need and "don't have the time" to do it myself.

In hindsight, there isn't much I couldn't have done myself... Well, at least I did this after martial relations tonight. I doubt I'll get any more for a while.

Thanks. I have printouts of each and every one of those already.

I've been burning up SearchTempest all weekend.

The local pickings have indeed been slim. I may still go look at the two local wagons. I have nearly an entire good car's worth of parts to transplant.

I need to go get some sleep so I don't slur my speech with the adjuster tomorrow.

So... getting closer to a settlement on the car. They've offered NADA Low Retail which is $5100, after I balked at their $3300 offer on Thursday. I guess they add in tax value or whatever, and the total number was $5490. On top of that, they want to charge me $800 salvage value on my car. Which I think is too high. I mean, I bought the damn thing at a salvage/abandoned vehicle auction for $500. So I offered $500 for the salvage and they aren't budging.

I called two local salvage yards and got $200, $150 bids on description of damage alone.

They claim their salvage value comes from Total Resource Auctions, which has locations nationwide...

ARRRRR!

There's one wagon local for $5k. It's my only hope. I did find a creampuff '87 SDL (135k) for $7500... Hmmm

When mine got totalled the started out very low same as you. If they adjustor wont move ask to speak to a supervisor. I had to all but threaten them with a law suit to get my car fixed.

It went kind of like this: That is your final offer? Yes because of A,B,and C your csr just is not worth much more. Well I was hoping not to have to get an attorney involved but I see that I am going to have, YOUR CLIENT hit ME, it is YOUR responibilty to fix MY CAR, I am not the one that PLOWED INTO THE BACK OF MY CAR AS IT STOPPED YOUR CLIENT DID.

Be firm.

Also there is a law on the books here in Pa that states that the ins co must mke the car right or Replace it with the same model in as good or better shape than the one that got totalled. Might be worth to look into that route.

As soon as the adjustor realized that I would not back down the money started to flow.

Andrew, did you share maintenance receipts with the adjuster or just comps? I have a good bit invested in parts since I bought the car, but the labor was done by me.

FWIW i think their $5K+ offer ain't bad. it's more than i would have guessed but i don't know your car. was it in average good condition or showroom? maint records just show the car was maintained, not "restored". Do you have detailed pictures to show the before accident condition?

Maintenance receipts don't count much towards insurance value of the car... they just consider that was you being a responsible owner. Now if you've recently done major work, tires, paint, engine/transmission overhaul, those count almost 100%.

What really mattered in getting the $$ from the insurance company was the NADA value (even if I settled for the low) and the fact that I told him to go find me another car of similar status for the $3100 he originally offered. I gave him countless for sale prices from CL & eBay.

Then we had to negotiate for the salvage value. A whole other beast...

And good parts can always be salvaged... Betty is in the garage right now looking like a co-ed at the end of a frat party... Rear-end is messed up and half stripped.
