Car chase scene starring a W126 300SD

It's not often you see a diesel as the car of choice to escape the police.

Cue the cheesy late 70s/early 80s car chase scene music.

This reminds me, the Fall Autocross for MBCA | Houston's not far off. .

There is NO way that diesel at the end of the scene was the same being chased... right? I'm right, right? No way...? I mean, mine wouldn't be able to take off that fast... or anybody's SD for that matter... right...? ...right...? *sigh*

Reminds me of the "Dukes of Hazzard" where the General Lee's tires would squeal on pavement, gravel, dirt, and even grass! Man those were some nasty tires!

Did anyone hear it start up at the end? Sounds like someone forgot to glow it and gave it an accelerator pedal nudge to get it going.

A brand new, 1983 300SD was certainly no hot rod, but it wasn't a total slug either. Considering that most 300SDs today have 25-30 years of wear on them, I wouldn't expect one to have the exact same performance as it would when brand new, unless a new or rebuilt engine was placed in it.

Plus that dodge probably wasn't a powerhouse either. If it had the 360 it made less then 200 hp.

When it was new it had 125 hp. That's more then enough to get the car moving. Add to that the shorter gearing of the early cars....

the funny part is that 300SD is probably still on the road somewhere. Just think, someone on the board with a white 126 diesel is probably driving that car without knowing it.

Yeah, the car could take off that fast if they hulled the interior of everything but what you could see, any accessory, spare tire, ABS crap, etc, etc. WHat do you mean SDs weren't fast? Mine takes off like that! Don't yours? LOL

all the acceleration is on corners, and in dirt. mine will spin rubber on corners on dry pavement, so yeah, I can totally believe the performance of the car.

It is obviously the car, also remember, it is a movie. Movies can make things look real that are not. I am watching the movie right now, and I will give further details later, if there are other scenes or more to the scene. Notice, in the youtube version the car is already rolin' when we see it...
