Odd diesel- 5cyl 617.016

Short story: Bought a 1976 300D that had an engine replacement back in 1988, to a 617.016 Trying to replace the secondary fuel filter, but the threads on the filter are larger than the ones I am used to with the 617 motors in the later W123's.

Anyone know how to figure out where to get parts for this engine? (Maybe a marine type?)

TIA

yeah, that doesn't look to be a valid MB engine designation....Nearly all the diesel engine #'s in the vehicle field are 617.9XX and 603 and 603

could possibly be from a UNI-MOG or some marine appication, or simply the wrong number..damaged number....

The numbers are clear, it's just odd. Figured that some guru here could decipher the secret code...

Question is, where to get parts for it?

There are few references to the 617.016, all are marine.

maybe you should chang out the filter houseing. oth if you find out what it is the other filter may be readily available at marine supplies.

Certainly will change out the fuel filter housing to the later type in the interests of having available parts... Looks easy enough to do.

Just had a look for the oil filter- it's apparently a cartridge type (like you would expect), but housed in a steel case on the lower front side of the motor. Not a top loader like the rest of my MB's have been. Hm.

Any clues on 617.016.0301 parts would be fantastic...

Thanks!

That is not an MB engine #. It is a head #. Look on the driver's side at the top of the block (not the head). You probably got that # off the front of the head.
