76 240d long shutdown
i have a 76 240d with an auto (which i replaced not too long ago) and it has been taking longer and longer to shut down. it has a mechanical shutdown, not vacuum. should there be any play were the cable attaches at the ip? i can't see how but, could this have anything to do with the rebuilt trans?

You need to properly adjust the cable, there shouldn't much play in it at all.

it's kind of hard to see but it doesn't look like it can be adjusted. the play is in the fitting the connects to the actuating lever.

Im trying to find find a blow up of the parts in EPC, but its really hard to tell. I know it is adjustable though.

A few years ago I had a 1975 240D that developed the same problem. It turned out that the rubber had torn loose from one side of the mount on the injector pump. It is a vulcanized rubber vibration damping mount that needed to be replaced. The cable can be adjusted in the mount to get the proper length.
