Sorry to bring up this old post I did a search.
I got a 83 300d. I replacement ed the voltage regulator. With same results.
I think it is my alt. I got 13.1 volt with nothing running.with AC on hi auxiliary fan on headlights it goes to 11.80 .am haven problem with battery going down after couple of days
I got a 83 380sl alt 70 amp will this one bolt up

It bolted up charging 13.9. With all consumers on still gets low. But holds at 12.20 I still think that's low???

Car wouldn't start after this.?

When You glow the car .when it fires up the glow plugs are supposed to stop glowing correct? Mine does not takes awhile. Plus my glow light don't work glow plugs ohm okay. Can see dome light DIMINGWTF? Cant sell car like this
