SOLVED HELP car wont turn off
1987 / 88 NA 300D 6cyl.
It wont shut down by the key and i had to use the stop lever. It did slow down with key turned off. I had just replaced my handbrake release handle. About 6 months ago i had the IP rebuilt by MTQ they have a good reputation and charged me $2600. After the rebuilt pump was fitted i have noticed first start it idles quick and un even before slowing the idle and smoothing out takes maybe 20 secs. Dont know if this is relevant. but have posted it as it is now ideling fast like in the morning when the key is in the on position. Peace and blessings |
Steve,
It sounds like a vac leak. Have fun finding it!! |

Do you know if there are lines in the dash near the handbrake release handle? |
Well i know for sure vacum is not electrical so i will follow your post and find vacum lines and hit them with a hammer?

First thing I would do is to get a piece of tube & connect it to the diaphragm at the back of the IP, then with the motor running, suck on it, it should shut the motor down, if not its the diaphragm. If it does shut it down, then it gets interesting, you should check to make sure you have vac at the vac pump. then work your way through the system. do your light adjusters working? They run on vac. Do the brakes work ok? A very heavy peddle would suggest the vac pump is bad.
I didnt say to hit anything with the hammer!!! As its moving & shouldnt, maybe it needs duct tape. :D |

thanks for the pointers will go and have a look. Thanks 4 your help |
That was easy.
The headlight adjuster switch has on of its ports glues in and was leaking. I routed both vacuum lines together and it stops. The headlight adjuster did not work anyway i guess due to after market lights. Help is appreciated. |
