So I have this friend with an SD he wants to get rid of

I saw a good friend on Sunday and asked him what he was doing with the SD that has been sitting by his house since last fall. He told me he is going to junk it. I said Noooo! Why don't you part it out. He does not have the tools or time or skills to do that. It belongs to his teenager who bought it about a year ago. Something happened to the tranny and it does not move anymore. The engine has about 160K on it. The body has a lot of rust. I know he will entertain any offers equal to or above junkyard value. He wants to get it out of his yard. Location is SW PA. I am waiting to hear from him regarding the year. It is in the early to mid 80's. I'll try to stop by and get a picture within a few days.

Is this car worth $300 or $400? Seems to me like it would be. I do not have an SD, nor any more room, nor any more time for another car right now. I'll see if I can start it to listen to the engine. I know it was running fine last fall.

Richard

With a 160k engine it is worth at least $400-600 easily.

my buddy lives nearby, and I am setting him up with a mint SD with a semi weak motor. odds are good that the trans just needs a b2 piston kit, and maybe a k1 spring kit to go with it. (about 150.00 in parts) pretty simple ramp work.
I'm pretty sure he'd pay scrap value and haul the car away for such a low miles motor.

Hmmm! I'll check on the way home. I drive by it. Obviously, I am not as well versed on the nuances of the SDs and SDLs. Love them though. Maybe one is in my future.

It should have a badge on the trunk lid.

Right. I did advance to the technical level of interpreting the badges on the trunk lids. I just need to drive by and observe what it says. I was not paying a lot of attention in the fall when I initially saw the car. Was too focused on the engine bay and changing the battery.

Correction - It is an 82 SD. Black with black leather interior. It was one elegant automobile at one time.

PM'd you. I do not have the time to invest in it. I'll talk to my friend and get back to you when I know what he wants to do.
