Advice re Finding a Particular Part at Junkyard

Never been to a junkyard....one of my near-term goals.

How do I go about finding out which MB's used a particular part? Specifically, I'll be looking for a cruise control actuator, MB Part 002 545 86 32. Is there some easy way of finding which cars used that particular actuator?

Thanks.

most places should have a part interchange system, but you should be able to find parts fairly easily for any of your listed mercedes, the actuator and brain should be available from any of the same chassis model car IE 124 etc

EPC can tell you which cars use a particular part. All you do is enter the part number and a list of models will come up. Sometimes hard to determine which years are being referred to but you'll get a general idea.

Also - be aware that many (most) modern junkyards will not let you go walking through the yard or to pull your own parts. They are more of a "Used Parts Store", where you just walk up to the counter and tell them what you are looking for. I try to avoid those places whenever possible, as their prices tend to be higher.

In your area, there is probably 1 or more junkyards that specialize in "foreign" cars - those may be your best bet for older MB parts.

The Pick-N-Pull type places give you full access to the yard, which can be good if they have the part you are looking for, but they are much less likely to have a good selection of MB parts, in my experience.

Junkyard operators are also tend to be notoriously grouchy.

Thanks, guys.

I just got GDL amp rebuild and actuator tune-up on my 91. And I guess one car with cruise is enough.

But on my 92, amp and actuator are SHOT. Amp can't even be rebuilt! I know I can take my chances on reman actuator and amp....would set me back about $320. But I thought it might be fun to see if I can find some junkyard parts reasonably cheap.

With luck, the operator will let you in the yard. If so, check prices before you pull something. One place near her crushed all of his 126s but wouldn't sell a trashed seat for < $250. He claimed the motors were worth that much. Another will sell (at least used to) a pile of misc stuff for $20. One time I got a complete interior for another car for $30. Take tools & cash (large & small bills so you have exact change) & have fun.

Definitely take cash, even let the proprietor know you will be paying with cash.

Sometimes they will be amenable to a cash discount, especially if you don't need a receipt.

Here's the info from the epc, seems a 240D and all 300D turbos used it.

Many, many cars utilized that part.

Trying to use pick n pulls online refrence is seriously flawed--They are almost always incorrect--If someone drove to dallas to look over the 300cd they "have listed" they end up looking at a sky blue 450sl 2 door.
