heh, it's the simple things...

customer came over to work off some of the repairs I've done on his car, and I take it for a drive for tea... (NC, sweet tea... McDee's don't hate on me) anyway, I feel like (holy crap this car runs poorly) it feels like a total miss on one cylinder... when I get back to the shop, I smell fuel, and get out and tell the guy... um, when you smell fuel in the car, you are supposed to call me... he says he thought all diesel cars had a smell to them... I told him "at the tail pipe, not the driver's seat!" anyway, I pop the hood, and #5 is soaked with fuel, and the nuts just a squirting away... I call him over, and ask how long it's been rocking like this? he says it's been like that pretty much since he's gotten the car, and never thought much about it because the car has over 500K on the clock,
I show him the fuel, and tighten up the line while it's idling... instantly the car is smooth as glass, and the car is happy.
I explain that his fuel consumption should drop by 1/3 or so... and his power should go up by at least 1/5th.... he's floored, he was totally amazed at the power of the car previously but NOW it's just off the wall amazing.
I can't imagine what he must have been driving to feel that a poorly running SD would feel SOOOO much more powerful and fast
anyway, he calls me up after he gets home and just cannot stop giggling about how much better the car runs.
I've to this point changed the motor mounts on the car,
and fixed the alternator's lack of charging.
I should have started from the running point of the car...

it's the simple things on these cars...

LOL, its a good thing your around to take car of him

heres one..the wife (not mine) gets home from work in her nice stick shift, 240D and tells her husband that the car needs two qts of oil because the "oil gauge" is down to "2". So huby says "no problem, I'll just run down and pick up some oil' Problem is he drove the 240D and before he gets far the engine starts making strange noises the quits DOH.....True story of how an engine became a door stop
