Annoying buzzer thing W124

Ok, I'm trying to find that annoying Buzzer thing in my car when you turn on the key to Glow the plugs... mine intermittently works and when I put everything back together I'd like it to work properly.

I need to replace mine as well...it is more of a sickly wavering drunk-bumblebee type sound...I imagine it is just a simple piezo buzzer, I know that there have also been members to change it over to a dinging sound. The possibilities are endless!

Hook it to a MP3 player and have it play your favorite song? that would be interesting

And connect one to the door switch. It would be like opening one of those Hallmark musical greeting cards every time you got in your car!

On the w126 it's already connected to the door switch. In my 300SDL, it was a black box under the drivers footwell panel, and when disconnected, not only did the buzzer stop ringing but the interior lights stopped coming on when the doors were opened. It's been years since I did this last, but I'm *pretty* sure I remember correctly. If not, then my apologies. Brian'll correct me :D

There is a buzzer when the glow plugs come on? W124? I've got a 92 am I missing something??

Aquaticedge 09-11-2010 01:54 PM

well, when you turn they key to the initial position that horrid buzzer goes off, and stops roughly around the same time the light goes out. least how it works in my car such as it is

The "the car just turned on so I have to make noise -- oh and by the way, buckle your seat belt!" buzzer comes on when the switch is turned on (as do the glow plugs) and frequently the plugs take about the same amount of time to satisfy their thermostat as the buzzer needs to time out. There's no link between the two but they tend to run close together just by coincidence.

There's got to be a way to change the buzzer's behavior in addition to changing its sound. The "you left the lights on, idiot!" and "you left the key in the ignition, idiot!" buzzers are useful; the "OMG YOU PUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION" one is not. Especially because it doesn't indicate anything. It isn't tied to the seatbelts, or the glowplugs, or the e-brake, or anything at all that you need to address before driving. I don't know what they were thinking.

If someone could chime (ha!) in with how to remove the relay from a W124, I'd be grateful. I've located it and figured out how to disconnect it, but how to un-mount it is still a mystery.

Memory tells me that there's something else that it controls in the 124, interior lights or something.

Aquaticedge 09-11-2010 04:10 PM

I dont want to Disconnect mine. I just want it to work right. it sounds when it does work like normal, or a drunk bee or just a Sick wailing sound.

bobodaclown 09-11-2010 04:18 PM

OK. I just went out to my vehicle. The buzzer is part of the seat belt system. Try this...
get in car close door.
Turn key in ignition system (you don't have to start it just to run). Buzzer should sound. (Glow plug light will cycle)
Turn car off.
Fasten seat belt.
Turn car on to run. NO BUZZER-- but the seat belt light will still do the time out. (Glow plug light will cycle)

Aquaticedge 09-11-2010 04:24 PM

I'll try it later. it's 98 out right now and it'll be even warmer in that car

mach0415 09-11-2010 09:41 PM

Yup it's the seatbelt warning. If you get a short glow plug light the buzzer continues. It's a good average for cycle time at least during warm months.

Aquaticedge 09-11-2010 10:54 PM

hmm, I'll leave it at the glow plug warning lol, those seatbelts wont fit around my fat aaa..rse
