pass inspection

tip: in case any of the red portion of your tails is faded to the point that white light is showing through, go to a hobby store and pick up some testors model paint in candy apple red color. you can just pull the light board assembly out, and spray shots into the hole for the bulb. give it several coats giving time of course for each layer to dry.

cost: around $5 instead of having to buy new tail assemblies. :)

Gillig 09-11-2010 06:03 PM

Or you can get used ones for $10/ea. :)

YES, and once again thats his business. He is not starving puppies or torturing kittens! Some people burn oil, get use to it and get over it. Its OK, its OK, its OK,......repeat after me........ its OK.

Its everyone's business and its far from "OK". He is stealing from everyone on the road by not paying his share of (fuel) taxes to maintain them.

How about folks with electric cars?

Re the OP, do OE tail lights fade? Seems like only aftermarket replacements fade.

There are none.

Of course there are.

The first time that I saw an electric daily driver was in about 1985.

And even without building your own or buying something that isn't quite available yet, you can pay to have a Prius converted to a grid-charged electric, at least for the first few dozen miles.

sixto 09-12-2010 02:04 PM

US Electricar will be happy to sell you one of their conversions.

These used to be popular - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160476747502

Not only do you avoid paying road tax, in some cases you can use HOV lanes without minimum occupancy.

Do CNG vendors collect road tax?

Gillig, I have a parts car 83 300SD that the previous owners ran out of oil then put in a yard motor and proceeded to run that out of oil. That's their choice, running on WVO is an alternative fuel and the choice of some. If you could not find diesel anywhere but could find kerosene would you not put that in your tank so you could drive where you need to? Without people willing to expriment there would be very little progress.

Secondly how do you know that he is not paying the taxes? Even if he isn't, if you rode a horse down the same roads as everyone else how would you pay the road taxes?

Please lighten up on the WVO comments they are unnecessary, "If its not necessary to say then its not necessary to say it." I personally got a bill passed in the State of Washington to exempt WVO from state road taxes, but thats just Washington and 6 or 7 other states. Ark, Indiana, Illinois, RI, North Carolina and I cannot remember the rest of the states, but if anyone else knows please post so I can make a list.

Thank you, just my .02 cents.

I do think states are going to have to come up with a plan to collect road taxes from people who are not using "normal" road fuel. The WVO wackos will go away as soon as the supply of cheap old diesels is gone, but plug-in electrics will probably increase in popularity. Maybe these vehicles need to be taxed based on mileage driven, or just pay a flat tax every year; each stat will have to figure it out. In the mean time, anyone caught running untaxed fuel in a diesel should pay a significant fine; running WVO is no better than running off-road diesel.

Sure, the number of them actively on public roads makes the number of VO users look like the population of China to Hawaii. Electrics have no future, the batteries are far worse for the environment than even the dirtiest of cars.

Definitely not! Straight Kerosene will kill the injection pump in no time. I'd drain 3qts of oil out of the crankcase and drive on that before putting raw Kerosene in the fuel tank.

He is in Texas, they have no way to pay taxes on it. Primarily because its illegal. Do they have a way for junkies to pay taxes on Heroin? Same concept.

If you want people to not speak the truth when the truth needs speaking, I implore you to visit China and ask people there how they like it.

Good for you. Did you happen to get WVO certified by the EPA as well so people can actually use it?

Thats right. The mass availability of electric cars is limited to hybrids right now, and their fuel economy isn't notably better than average gasoline cars let alone non-hybrid diesels. The issue with mileage based fees is that its extremely easy to falsify through plug-in tuners altering the "gear ratio" seen by the computer, installing larger tires or simply swapping clusters. Heck my fee would be zero since my odometer hasn't worked in years! :D

Hello Sixto

In Washington state the people that run CNG purchase a tax sticker that goes on the windshield so yes they do pay road use taxes.

That was one of the options I asked the legislature to consider on the bill which was passed here in WA. I asked them to 1. exempt us, 2. give us a way to pay the tax, or 3. treat us the way they treat CNG users.

You can always pay your federal road use tax by sending in a federal tax form, I believe without hunting that is it form 720.

http://www.irs.ustreas.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f720.pdf

Hope this helps.

Gillig I can't believe you would drain some of your used motor oil and put that in your fuel tank rather than use kerosene. Kerosene is much cleaner than used motor oil. If your concerned with lubricity just add a little SVO to the kerosene and your lubricity is back. Just for your information I carry a small book around with me almost everywhere I go it has both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States of America. I have lived in other countries where the freedom of speech is not as free as here in the USA. I lived in Salzberg Austria in the 50's and traveled Europe extensively at that time.

I guess it comes down to what did you hope to accomplish by the harrassment of those of us that use WVO. I guess that if you had been born when the automobile first came out you would have complained to the EPA because gasoline stunk compared to horse manure. Oh thats right the EPA did not exist back then.
